Connect the KlickTipp App MCP

The KlickTipp MCP server exposes newsletters, contacts, tags, custom fields, opt-in processes, and other supported KlickTipp capabilities as tools for compatible MCP clients. It is the connection layer used both by direct MCP connections and by the KlickTipp plugin for Claude and Codex. The plugin additionally includes KlickTipp skills that guide the assistant in choosing and using these tools correctly.

The KlickTipp App MCP server is available at:

https://mcp.klicktipp.com/mcp

The server uses OAuth for authentication. You do not need an API key, a local server executable, or a .env file.

This article covers the server itself: connecting to it directly with any MCP-capable client, what it can currently do, and its safety behavior. If you want the packaged experience for Claude or Codex — with skills included — see Install the KlickTipp plugin for Claude and Codex instead.

What the server can do

The documented tool catalog is available in the KlickTipp MCP Server Tool Reference. After connecting, the tool list returned by the server is authoritative for the tools currently available to your account and client.

What you need

  • A KlickTipp Premium, Deluxe, or Enterprise subscription with access to the MCP server.
  • Permission to sign in to the KlickTipp account you want to use.
  • A client that supports remote MCP servers and OAuth 2.0.
    • Claude: A Claude account in which custom Connectors are available and permission to install custom Connectors. Claude Pro license requiered.
    • ChatGPT: A ChatGPT account in which Plugins are available and permission to install plugins. ChatGPT Plus license for personal use with Codex, or ChatGPT Business license for managed workspace use with Codex and the Cloud Application requiered.
    • Client-specific account and administrator requirements are explained below.

Note: If you're thinking about using KlickTipp and just want an overview of the features our MCP server offers, we provided an overview of all currently available tools in this documentation.

Important safety behavior

MCP tools operate in the KlickTipp account connected through OAuth. Read-only operations may run without a confirmation prompt. Confirmation behavior for write operations depends on the individual tool and the MCP client.

  1. A real newsletter dispatch always requires separate human confirmation inside KlickTipp.
  2. Some irreversible operations are available through MCP, including deleting tags, custom fields, or opt-in processes.
  3. Some actions that change subscription states or can trigger automations require an explicit approval input.
  4. Other write operations rely on the client’s confirmation behavior and the warnings in the tool description.

Always review the connected account, affected objects, and tool warnings before approving a write operation.

Step-By-Step Instruction for agent clients

Use these instructions when you want to interact with KlickTipp directly through an AI assistant or agent application.

This creates a direct MCP connection without the KlickTipp skills. If your client supports the full plugin, we recommend installing the KlickTipp plugin for Claude and Codex instead.

Anthropic Claude

Advanced: Use domain-specific servers

For most users, the main KlickTipp MCP server is the recommended and simplest option:

https://mcp.klicktipp.com/mcp

Some MCP clients or integration providers limit the number of tools they can load from a single server. In this case, you can connect one or more domain-specific KlickTipp servers instead.

You can also use the individual servers if you intentionally want to expose only selected functional areas to your MCP client.

ServerEndpointWhat it does
contacts/contactsManage contacts, contact tags, audiences, custom fields, tags, and labels
opt-in/opt-inManage opt-in processes, unsubscription processes, and related landing pages
listbuilding/listbuildingManage listbuilding forms and registration methods, including inline forms, widgets, raw code, API keys, email, and SMS
marketing-tools/marketing-toolsManage marketing tools, calendars, countdowns, webhooks, and website feedback
statistics/statisticsView statistics and manage SmartLinks and tagging pixels
user-settings/user-settingsManage account settings, sender addresses, sender domains, and email signatures
newsletter/newsletterCreate and manage newsletters and newsletter split tests
autoresponder/autoresponderCreate and manage follow-up campaigns and autoresponders
automation/automationManage automation workflows, activation, search, statistics, templates, contacts, and channel steps
automation-steps/automation-stepsManage automation logic such as decisions, waits, goals, tags, fields, and split tests
automation-email/automation-emailCreate, edit, test, and analyze automation and notification emails
automation-sms/automation-smsManage automation and notification SMS messages and SMS readiness
email-editor/email-editorBuild email layouts using blocks, styles, structures, placeholders, and conditional content
email-content/email-contentManage complete email content, templates, imports, text versions, validation, previews, and images

All endpoints use the base URL https://mcp.klicktipp.com/mcp and KlickTipp-managed OAuth 2.0 authentication.

Each individual server must be added to your MCP client as a separate integration. Complete the OAuth sign-in for every server you add. All servers use the same KlickTipp login and authorization scope.

Working with email content

To edit emails for newsletters, follow-up campaigns, or automations, also connect the email-editor and email-content servers.

Troubleshooting

All calls fail with 401 Unauthorized

The OAuth login has not completed for this MCP connection.

  • In Claude, open Customize > Connectors, select KlickTipp, and repeat the connection process.
  • In a managed ChatGPT workspace, open Settings > Apps, select KlickTipp, and reconnect your account.
  • In Claude Code or Codex, start a new session and send:
Please reconnect the KlickTipp MCP server:
https://mcp.klicktipp.com/mcp

Restart the OAuth sign-in and verify that the KlickTipp tools are available after authentication.

If authentication still fails, confirm that you are signing in to the intended KlickTipp account and that the account includes MCP access.

A tool returns unknown tool

This can mean that the client is using an outdated tool list, that the tool name has changed, or that the tool is not available in the current production rollout.

Start a new session and ask the client to refresh the KlickTipp MCP tools. Then check the KlickTipp MCP Server Tool Reference. If the tool is still missing, do not assume that it is available for the connected account.

The requested account cannot be reached

Confirm that you authenticated with the intended KlickTipp account and that it has permission to access the requested account or sub-account.
